Attention Activity

(This idea comes from point #4 under “Learn Together” in the lesson)

Start the lesson by taping some photos of famous people onto the board. Try to think of people you know your girls talk about and admire. Some examples might be: One Direction, Jennifer Lawrence, Kristen Bell, Justin Timberlake, Josh Hutcherson, Beyonce. The list could go on! Let the girls talk about the photos. Ask them questions about these people. Ask them who their favorite movie star/performer is and what they know about that person. Write on the board some of the qualities they are listing. Next, ask them who their best friend is and list some things they know about their friend. Write on the board some of the qualities they are listing about their best friends. Now have them read John 17:3. What is the difference between knowing about someone and knowing someone? Have them think about how they were able to get to know their best friends. Explain to them that this lesson will help teach them how to know Heavenly Father, not just about Him.

Title Poster

Print this poster to be displayed for your lesson. You could also print one off for each girl to write on the back during the lesson. The last poster could be used with the 5th bullet point under “Learn Together” in the lesson.

The B&W poster is actually just a different quote from the lesson as an alternative.

Scripture Cards

These cards go with the 4th bullet point in the Learn Together section. You could distribute the cards by placing them in a heart shaped box, or attached to a small Conversation Hearts box. Have them look up their scripture reference, and look for ways they can know Heavenly Father. Invite them to share what they learn and any experiences they have had coming to know their Heavenly Father in these ways.

Treat Idea

This lesson would go well with any treat that is in the shape of a heart. Most stores will have their Valentine’s candy out by now so it’s the perfect time! Grab a box of conversation hearts for each of your girls, or a heart shaped sucker.

What have they done to get to know that person? List their responses on the board. ?Follow by discussing what they can do to know Heavenly Father better.
