Attention Activity

Start the lesson by taping some photos of famous people onto the board. Try to think of people you know your girls talk about and admire. Some examples might be: One Direction, Jennifer Lawrence, Kristen Bell, Justin Timberlake, Josh Hutcherson, Beyonce. The list could go on! Let the girls talk about the photos. Ask them questions about these people. Ask them who their favorite movie star/performer is and what they know about that person. Write on the board some of the qualities they are listing. Next, ask them who their best friend is and list some things they know about their friend. Write on the board some of the qualities they are listing about their best friends. Now have them read John 17:3. What is the difference between knowing about someone and knowing someone? Have them think about how they were able to get to know their best friends. Explain to them that this lesson will help teach them how to know Jesus Christ, not just about Him.

Additional Ideas

OBJECT LESSON: He is our foundation:

Decorate a styrofoam cake and bring it to class.? Have plates and forks and napkins all ready.? Invite one of the girls to take a knife and cut into the cake, only to discover that it isn’t a cake at all.? No matter what we put onto it, there is no foundation and we couldn’t eat it.? Jesus Christ is the sure foundation.? The ingredients for our cake (bring these ingredients) might include flour, sugar, eggs, butter, baking soda and salt – or in other words, let the girls put new handwritten labels for what goes into our faith in Christ – such as scripture study, prayer, keeping the commandments etc. Jesus is the cake.? On that we can add filling and decorations etc – which is the other things in our lives.? They all depend on the cake.

TREAT IDEA: Bring a real cake or cupcakes to give to the girls to go along with?this object lesson.
